WASHINGTON COUNTY – June 1, 2026 The Washington County Long Term Recovery Group (WCLTRG) is proud to announce an expansion of support services for those still impacted by the 2024 Helene flood. President James Hanson states, “while our community has made significant strides toward rebuilding, we recognize that many individuals and enterprises in the county are still working to get back on their feet.” To address these remaining recovery gaps, the group is introducing a new expanded recovery assistance program beginning July 1, 2026.
Previously, the WCLTRG’s scope of service focused on providing recovery assistance primarily to residents of Washington County affected by the flood. This new initiative is an extension of the group’s resources, expanding the criteria for those who may request assistance to ensure a more comprehensive county-wide restoration. The expanded recovery assistance program will include those individuals and small business owners with a home or property in Washington County that was affected by the flood. This program will run alongside the group’s primary assistance program for county residents.
By extending resources to include impacted properties and local businesses, the WCLTRG aims to bolster the county’s overall resilience. This broader approach acknowledges that there are still members of the community struggling to recover and the group seeks to focus on addressing those gaps in recovery. Mr. Hanson encourages those who still need assistance, “if your small business is still recovering from the flood, or you have property that didn’t fit into our initial scope of service, I encourage you to reach back out to the group to see if we can help.” The group continues its support of residents in the county recovering from the flood as it seeks to connect with those who may benefit from the new program.
